ChildObesity180: Reverse the Trend

ChildObesity180 was established in 2009 to reverse the trend of childhood obesity. With multi-sector leadership and an integrated and evidence-based approach, ChildObesity180 accelerates solutions that have the greatest impact to improve the health and well-being of U.S. children.

A team of prominent experts and leaders from all sectors—public, private, academic, and non-profit—comprises the ChildObesity180 membership. These members have been instrumental in shaping the strategic priority areas for the organization, and crafting innovative approaches to address this complex issue.

Guided by these priority areas, ChildObesity180 is committed to executing a portfolio of high-impact initiatives which will, collectively, have a positive influence on children’s energy balance throughout the course of a day. These initiatives are based on the best available evidence and will be scaled to effect broad change at the national level.

ChildObesity180 is conducted at Tufts University in the Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston, MA. Peter Dolan, former CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb, serves as the chair; leading childhood obesity and nutrition researcher Dr. Christina Economos serves as vice-chair and director; and Dr. Miriam Nelson, a leading obesity and physical activity researcher, is the co-director.
